Mattingly (born June 29, 1993) is an American professional baseball catcher for the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals. Career Mattingly attended University High School in Dallas, Texas, where he played baseball. After graduating in 2012, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he played college baseball for the Texas Longhorns. In 2013, as a junior, he had a.266 batting average with 12 home runs and 50 runs batted in. As a senior in 2014, he batted.278 with seven home runs and 40 runs batted in. Kansas City Royals Mattingly was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. He signed and made his professional debut with the Idaho Falls Chukars, where he batted.343/.415/.486 with two home runs and 20 RBIs over 64 games. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League. In 2015, he played for the Lexington Legends and Northwest Arkansas Naturals, batting a combined.267 with six home runs and 51 RBIs. He spent 2016 with the Wilmington Blue Rocks and Northwest Arkansas Naturals where he slashed.265/.320/.391 with nine home runs and 74 RBIs, before getting a September call up to the Kansas City Royals. On November 1, 2016, Mattingly was called up to the majors for the first time after Aaron Sanchez was placed on the disabled list. He was optioned back to Triple-A on November 3, 2016, but was recalled the next day. On November 9, Mattingly hit his first major league home run off of Chicago White Sox starter Lucas Giolito. Mattingly was designated for assignment on January 12, 2018. Mattingly was placed on the 60-day disabled list on January 18, 2018, after being hit in the head by a line drive while catching for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. He was activated on May 1, 2018.
